Big Brothers Big Sisters of South Africa is a non-profit organisation dedicated to helping children and youth at risk realise their potential by facilitating the development of long-term one-to-one mentoring relationships.
A child is matched with an adult mentor, someone who is both a positive role model and a friend. We match the specific strengths, interests and abilities of a volunteer to the identified needs of the child. The child is known as the Little and the adult mentor, the Big.
All over the world there are vulnerable children who may not be able to reach their full potential. These are children and youth who lack inspiration, guidance and experience to move beyond their daily survival and experience positive youth development. By volunteering a minimum of one hour of your time each week for at least one year as a mentor, you could profoundly change the course of a child's life.
The Big Brothers Big Sisters mentoring initiative represents an attempt to restore vision and inspiration to youth who are in desperate need of guidance and support. By simply giving children the opportunity to feel valued, by listening to them, it is possible to open up a world decidedly brighter than before.

SA Blood Donor Centre
Blood donation is a simple procedure. It takes 30 minutes of your time and
yet your one donation can help save the lives of three other people. Every
day in KZN the hospitals need around 400 units of blood for patients and
this is a responsibility that rests with the community. One never knows
when you or a member of your family will need blood.
The local blood doner centre is situated at 55 Umhlanga Rocks Drive (opposite the firestation) and was opened specifically to make it more convenient for North Durban residents to donate blood.
It is very spacious, air-conditioned for comfort during the humid months, and has friendly welcoming staff.
Sister Joy Pires is the Sister in Charge of the clinic and is ably assisted by
Hansu Bhikha, the phlebotomist.
They take great pride in running a happy, professional clinic and would love to meet more of the local residents. 55 Umhlanga Rocks Drive. Tel: 031 564 6070
The clinic times are:
Weekdays- 10 am to 5 pm
Tuesdays- 10 am to 6 pm
Saturdays- 9 am to 12 noon

Kayak 4 AIDS
Kayak 4 Aids (founded by Werner Stoltz) has pledged to do something real in the fight against AIDS.
With the help of God and his sponsors, Werner will be the first person to attempt one of the most adventurous and dangerous expeditions. To raise awareness and money for HIV and AIDS, he will paddle solo in a sea kayak from London to Durban - over 16 000 km! Not only is he the first to attempt such a daring feat, but this will also be the longest kayak journey in history.
We urge everyone to be a part of this ground-breaking journey.
His dream is to raise R 2 000 000 to open an AIDS shelter named "the Nineveh Project" in South Africa. His expedition will take him from the United Kingdom to France, West Spain, Portugal, South Spain, Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, Egypt, Sudan, Eritrea, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania, and Mozambique, to arrive in Durban - South Africa.
You can help Werner and Kayak 4 Aids, by making an online donation, buying a pixel of his website for your company, or joining his kayak club, you will be making a real difference in the lives of many homeless children infected and affected by HIV/AIDS.
If you are able to offer some sort of support, be it financial support, donations to the shelter, help in fundraising for the Nineveh project, or simply a prayer or note of good luck, please contact Werner through his website: www.k4a.co.za.
